Coach Speed works with a limited amount of endurance athletes each year, helping them strengthen and expand towards their individual goals. She keeps her numbers reserved to be intimately connected with each athlete's goal + journey. She supports each athlete though their own unique + specialized training program, open communication to balance the ebbs + flows of life with training, and requires equal effort on recovery as training. Mental training and thought practices are braided within each cycle of training. Contact Blair to discuss availability, specialization, and pricing. Coach Speed currently has full roster of dedicated athletes for 2019 but looks forward to opening a few additional spots in 2020.
She has also had the opportunity to be Crew Manager at numerous 100 Mile Endurance Races and has witnessed the limitlessness within the human spirit. In 2008, she hiked from Virginia to Maine along the Appalachian Trail and learned the accessibility of adventure. If you're interested in a long-distance endeavor and would like an ultra-organized, experienced, and all-in support manager, contact Blair for availability, pricing, and enthusiasm.
ALLISON MCGREE, first Ultra Race
"Speed was born to be a running coach, it’s literally her name. Coach Speed held me back when it
was necessary (and horribly painful for me); she coached ME in a way that was amazingly
ALWAYS exactly what I needed. It’s hard to describe in words; Blair has a gift. She can read
people, push people, hold them back, empathetically understand them…and she can see
greatness and potential in others that they can’t yet see themselves. She has an open-ended
belief in the brilliance and limitless of the human potential. Her spirit is the same reason the
four minute mile was broken, or why Ultra running ever started. We all have so much more in
our wheelhouse that we think we do. She is a giant, and luckily, a great friend as well."
JESSE MCCLUNG, strengthening Mountain Endurance
"My life has irrevocably changed because of working with Blair. I realize that seems a bit dramatic but it’s the truth.
A year ago, I set a new goal to be able to move faster and go further in the mountains. I knew this meant I’d have to suffer through something I loathed… Cardio. Over the years, I’ve tried many times to improve my aerobic capacity and things have always fizzled out with minimal results. I knew if I wanted this to stick, I needed to have a pro helping me. Enter Coach Speed! The first thing she taught me was that I’d been doing cardio all wrong, I needed to slow down. WHAT?! I was already slow and my goal was to go faster! But, I knew I could trust Blair. She also wanted me to choose a race so I’d have a tangible goal. I chose The Rut 28K because it both inspired and terrified me. When we started, my “long” runs were just 2-4 miles. Completing a 28k mountain run seemed impossible but Blair never wavered in her belief that I could do it, her faith in me was so strong that soon my own mindset began to change and my self-confidence grew. My runs in the mountains grew longer and longer and I was actually having fun! The transformation to enjoying running was something I never expected, that part is far more meaningful to me than completing any race. I did complete my race though and in a faster time than I thought I could.
As a coach, Blair is extremely motivating. She took the time to get to know me as a person, she knew how to push me and how to hold me back; when a sore foot needed to be rested or when I needed to toughen up. She helped me with core strength, flexibility, even nutrition. She shepherded me from short runs around my neighborhood to 20 mile runs in the mountains, without injury. But, the part I’m most grateful for is that she helped me realize I was capable of much more than I ever knew. A year ago, a two-hour ski tour or bike ride would wreck me. Now, I can go out all day and enjoy it! My goals have also changed; they are higher and deeper in the mountains than I’d ever dared to look. Today I’m more than a year into this journey and I’m not going back. I will keep working with Coach Speed; not because I ran a good race time or because I’m 20 lbs lighter and feel better than I ever have, which is all true, but because I now know what’s possible if I stay consistent, follow her guidance and trust the process."
Ashley Arnold, Leadville 100 Mile Endurance Race, 1st Place Female (2013)
"Blair is likely one of the most supportive and authentic people I know. Blair has the ability to actively listen and honestly provide constructive and supportive feedback in an impactful way. And, this translates into one helluva coach and friend.
When I raced Leadville several years ago, appointing Blair as my Crew Leader was the obvious choice. She’s organized, efficient, positive, overflowing with energy, and hyper-focussed on the task at hand: helping her athlete cross the finish line as fast as possible and with as few hiccups as possible. If it’s accountability, motivation, expert advice, or even race support, without doubt, Blair is the gal you need. She is THE BEST."
